tooly is a collection of 77 free online tools for images, PDF, video, audio and text, available in 8 languages. It is an independent project, built and run by a single developer — no investors, no data brokers, no growth team deciding what you see.

Why everything runs in your browser

Most "free online converters" upload your file to a server, process it there and keep it for a while nobody tells you about. For a holiday photo that may not matter. For a contract, a passport scan or a payslip it does.

tooly does the work on your own device instead. The same engines a desktop program would use — FFmpeg for video and audio, PDF libraries, Tesseract for text recognition, a neural network for background removal — run inside the browser tab, compiled to WebAssembly. The file is read by your machine and never transmitted. You can check this yourself: open the browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab and convert something. Nothing leaves.

What runs on our servers, and why

A few tasks are beyond what a browser can do, and the pages for them say so plainly:

  • Office documents (Excel and PowerPoint to PDF) need a real office suite to lay out.
  • Speech recognition, translation and subtitles need a model far too large for a browser tab.
  • Very large files exceed the memory a browser tab is allowed to use.

For these, the file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted as soon as the result is ready. Results themselves expire within an hour. Nothing is analysed, indexed or used for anything else.

How tooly pays for itself

  • The browser tools are free and stay free. They run on your hardware, so they cost almost nothing to serve.
  • Free pages may show ads. They never see your files — ads are placed around the tool, not in it.
  • Premium ($6 a month or $48 a year) pays for the part that does cost money: server processing without the daily limit, larger files, longer recordings, and no ads. Payments are handled by Paddle; we never see card details.

We do not sell data, because we do not collect it. There is no account needed for the free tools, no watermark on results and no limit on how often you use them.
