How to extract audio from a video

Lectures, interviews, a song from a concert clip, a voice memo that was recorded as video by mistake — the audio track is often all you need, and it is a fraction of the size.

1. Open MP4 to MP3 and drop the video (MOV and WebM work too).
2. Choose a bitrate. 192 kbps is transparent for speech and most music; 320 kbps is the MP3 maximum.
3. Download the MP3.

Lossless output

MP3 discards detail. If you intend to edit the audio further, or the source is a high-quality recording, extract to WAV or FLAC with the Audio converter instead — it accepts video input as well.

About quality

You cannot get better audio than the video contains. Phone recordings are typically AAC at 96–128 kbps; exporting them at 320 kbps only makes the file bigger. Match the bitrate to the source: 128 kbps for phone clips, 192–256 kbps for proper recordings.
